Overview

The ATA6561-GAQW-N is a high-speed CAN transceiver that provides an interface between a Controller Area Network (CAN) protocol controller and the physical two-wire CAN bus. It is designed for high-speed CAN FD (Flexible Data-rate) applications up to 5Mbps, offering improved bandwidth for modern automotive and industrial networks. The device features a wide operating temperature range from -40degC to 150degC and includes a standby mode for low-power consumption.

Why Choose This Part

This transceiver offers excellent electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and electrostatic discharge (ESD) performance. It includes advanced protection features such as TXD dominant time-out, overtemperature protection, and short-circuit protection on CANH and CANL pins. The dedicated VIO pin allows for direct interfacing with microcontrollers using supply voltages from 2.8V to 5.5V.

Applications

Automotive Body Electronics
Ideal for ECU networking in vehicles requiring high-speed communication for lighting, doors, and climate control.
Industrial Automation
Used in factory floor sensors and actuators where robust, noise-immune communication is critical over long distances.
CAN FD Networks
Designed for modern systems that require data rates up to 5Mbps to handle increased bus load.

Getting Started

To evaluate this part, use a CAN FD capable microcontroller or a dedicated CAN controller like the MCP2517FD. Ensure a 120-ohm termination resistor is present at each end of the bus and bypass the VCC and VIO pins with 100nF ceramic capacitors placed close to the device pins. Monitor the RXD recessive clamping detection to troubleshoot bus wiring issues during development.
