ATF1508AS

MCHPATF1508AS

Microchip
An 8-Macrocell CPLD family part from Microchip (Atmel lineage) for simple control and glue-logic needs.
Active352 in stock

Overview

The ATF1508AS is a high-performance, high-density Complex Programmable Logic Device (CPLD) utilizing Electrically Erasable (EE) technology. It features 128 macrocells with a 7.5 ns maximum pin-to-pin delay and supports up to 80 I/O pins in a 100-TQFP package. Operating at a 5V internal supply, it provides a robust solution for legacy logic consolidation and high-speed glue logic applications.

Why Choose This Part

The device offers excellent logic flexibility with 5 product terms per macrocell that are expandable up to 40, allowing for complex combinatorial logic. It supports In-System Programming (ISP) with a minimum of 10,000 erase/write cycles and includes advanced power management features like a 10 uA standby mode in the L-version and a pin-controlled 1 mA standby mode.

Applications

Legacy System Logic Consolidation
Replacing multiple 74-series discrete logic ICs in 5V systems to reduce PCB area and power consumption.
Address Decoding
High-speed memory and peripheral mapping for 8-bit and 16-bit microprocessor bus architectures.
Custom Timing Generation
Creating precise clock dividers, PWM signals, or state machines for hardware sequencing.
I/O Expansion
Increasing the available digital I/O for microcontrollers with programmable pin-keeper and open-collector options.

Getting Started

Designers typically use Microchip WinCUPL or third-party synthesis tools to develop logic using VHDL or Verilog. Programming is achieved through the JTAG interface using a standard ISP cable and compatible hardware programmers like the Atmel-ICE. Ensure the 5V supply (4.75V to 5.25V) is stable and bypassed correctly near the TQFP-100 power pins.
