Overview

The AWR1843AOPEVM is an evaluation module for the AWR1843AOP single-chip mmWave radar sensor, featuring an integrated Antenna-on-Package (AOP) that operates in the 76GHz to 81GHz range. This hardware platform enables the evaluation of a complete automotive radar system including a C67x DSP and ARM Cortex-R4F processor for on-chip object detection and data processing. The integration of antennas directly into the package significantly reduces RF design complexity and PCB area requirements.

Why Choose This Part

The Antenna-on-Package technology eliminates the need for expensive high-frequency PCB substrates and complex RF layout design, speeding up time-to-market. It features dual CAN-FD transceivers for automotive networking and high-density connectors for raw ADC data capture over LVDS for advanced algorithm development.

Applications

Automotive Parking Assist
Utilizes the high-resolution 77GHz band and wide field-of-view offered by the AOP design for obstacle detection in tight spaces.
Blind Spot Detection
Integrated processing allows for real-time tracking of vehicles and objects in adjacent lanes without external MCU overhead.
Occupancy Sensing
High sensitivity enables detecting small movements for in-cabin life presence monitoring and seat occupancy detection.
Automated Door Opening
Small form factor allows integration into side mirrors or door pillars to detect obstacles before opening vehicle doors.

Getting Started

Start development by connecting the EVM to a PC via the onboard USB-to-UART interface for flash programming and data visualization using TI mmWave Studio. The board includes a CC2642R2 wireless MCU for Bluetooth connectivity and supports 5V power input for standalone operation. Use the 60-pin high-density connectors for interfacing with data capture boards like the DCA1000EVM to analyze raw radar ADC data.
