BH1745NUC

ROHM
I2C RGB color sensor offering compact package and good color sensing performance for display calibration and ambient color detection in space-constrained designs.

Overview

The BH1745NUC is a high-sensitivity digital color sensor IC with an I2C interface that detects Red, Green, Blue, and Infrared light. It features an integrated IR-cut filter to ensure accurate color sensing under various light sources and supports a wide dynamic range from 0.005 lx to 40k lx. The sensor is housed in a compact 2.1mm x 2.0mm WSON package, making it ideal for space-constrained mobile and industrial designs.

Why Choose This Part

The BH1745NUC offers excellent IR rejection and supports low-transmittance (dark) windows, which is critical for sensors placed behind glass or plastic housings. It features ultra-low power consumption with a 0.8uA standby current and integrates 50Hz/60Hz light noise rejection for stable readings in indoor environments.

Applications

Display Backlight Control
Adjusting screen brightness and color temperature based on ambient lighting to improve user comfort and power efficiency.
Tablet and Smartphone Light Sensing
Providing accurate ambient light data for automatic white balance and color compensation in mobile devices.
Industrial Color Management
Monitoring and regulating color consistency in manufacturing processes or lighting control systems.
Medical Device Interfaces
Detecting ambient color and intensity to calibrate displays in diagnostic equipment.

Getting Started

Connect the sensor via the I2C bus using a 2.3V to 3.6V supply, ensuring the 1.8V logic interface compatibility matches your host MCU. Developers can utilize the programmable interrupt function to wake the system only when specific light thresholds are met, reducing overall system power consumption. ROHM provides evaluation boards and sample code to facilitate rapid integration of the color-to-digital conversion algorithms.
