Overview

The BM833 is a powerful, low-power Bluetooth 5.1 and 802.15.4 module based on the Nordic nRF52833 SoC. It features an integrated PCB trace antenna and a 64MHz ARM Cortex M4F processor with 512kB Flash and 128kB RAM, making it suitable for complex mesh networking and direction-finding applications. The module's wide supply voltage range of 1.7V to 5.5V allows for direct operation from USB or various battery chemistries.

Why Choose This Part

The module includes an integrated DC-DC converter with embedded inductors to minimize external component count and power consumption. Its support for Bluetooth 5.1 Coded PHY provides significantly extended range without requiring external power amplifiers. Additionally, the inclusion of an NFC-A tag interface enables simplified Out-of-Band (OOB) pairing for a better user experience.

Applications

Direction Finding
Utilizes Bluetooth 5.1 Angle of Arrival (AoA) and Angle of Departure (AoD) capabilities for high-precision indoor positioning.
Smart Home Mesh Networking
Supports Thread, Zigbee, and Bluetooth Mesh for interconnected home automation systems.
Secure IoT Gateways
Leverages the integrated USB 2.0 interface and secure boot capabilities for robust data collection and transmission.
Industrial Sensors
Uses the -104dBm sensitivity and +8dBm output power for reliable long-range wireless communication in noisy environments.

Getting Started

Engineers can develop for the BM833 using the Nordic nRF Connect SDK and the SEGGER Embedded Studio IDE. The module is compatible with Nordic's SoftDevices and can be programmed via the SWD interface. For rapid prototyping, Fanstel provides the EV-BM833 evaluation board which breaks out the module's I/O and USB pins.
