Overview

The BME688 is a high-linearity environmental sensor that combines gas, humidity, pressure, and temperature sensing with an integrated artificial intelligence (AI) gas scanner. It is designed to detect a wide range of gases including Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), sulfur compounds, and carbon monoxide at the parts-per-billion (ppb) level.

Why Choose This Part

The sensor features a unique AI-driven gas scanner that can be trained to recognize specific gas mixtures using the BME AI-Studio tool. It offers extremely low power consumption, drawing as little as 0.15uA in sleep mode and 3.7uA for basic environmental sensing at 1 Hz.

Applications

Indoor Air Quality Monitoring
Detecting VOCs from paints, furniture, and cleaning supplies to optimize HVAC ventilation.
Wildfire Detection
Using the gas scanner and AI to detect early-stage fire signatures in outdoor environments.
Food Spoilage Detection
Monitoring gas emissions to identify the freshness or decay of perishable goods.
Personal Wellness Wearables
Tracking environmental exposure and air purity in compact, battery-powered devices.

Key Specifications

Output Type I2C, SPI
Sensor Type Gas, Humidity, Pressure, Temperature
Operating Temperature -40degC ~ 85degC

Getting Started

Developers should use the Bosch BME AI-Studio software to train the sensor for specific gas detection applications. For prototyping, the BME688 shuttle board can be used with the Bosch Sensortec Application Board 3.0 or various third-party Arduino and Adafruit breakout boards.

Also Consider
