Overview

The BQ24195RGET is a highly integrated switch-mode battery management IC designed for single-cell Li-ion and Li-polymer batteries. It combines a 4.5A fast charger with a synchronous boost converter capable of providing 5.1V at 2.1A for USB On-the-Go (OTG) applications. The device features Narrow VDC (NVDC) power path management, allowing the system to operate instantly even with a deeply discharged or missing battery.

Why Choose This Part

This IC operates at a high 1.5-MHz switching frequency, allowing the use of small inductors and capacitors to save board space. It features ultra-low leakage current of 12 uA in battery-only mode and a 5 uA sleep current, significantly extending shelf life for consumer electronics. The integrated power path allows the system to remain powered while the battery is charging or when the battery is completely absent.

Applications

Power Bank Modules
Utilizes the bidirectional power path to charge an internal cell and provide a regulated 5.1V output to external devices via USB OTG.
Portable Industrial Tablets
Provides high-current charging and system power arbitration to ensure stable operation during high processing loads.
Handheld Healthcare Devices
Integrates thermal regulation and safety timers to meet stringent medical device battery safety standards.
Smartphones and Phablets
Supports high-efficiency charging from USB or AC adapter inputs while minimizing heat dissipation in compact enclosures.

Getting Started

Designers can evaluate this part using the BQ24195EVM evaluation module, which allows for I2C configuration of charging parameters and monitoring. Ensure the PCB layout follows high-frequency switching guidelines, placing the input and output capacitors as close to the VQFN-24 package pins as possible to minimize EMI. The I2C interface is required to access advanced features like current limit adjustments and thermal status monitoring.
