Overview

The BQ27425YZFT-G2B is a single-cell Li-Ion battery fuel gauge that utilizes Texas Instruments patented Impedance Track technology to provide accurate state-of-charge (SOC) data. It is designed to reside on the system board, supporting both embedded and removable batteries with minimal external components. The device features an integrated 10 mOhm sense resistor and a low-dropout (LDO) regulator, allowing it to be powered directly from the battery.

Why Choose This Part

The integrated sense resistor significantly reduces PCB footprint and bill-of-materials cost compared to discrete solutions. Its low power consumption, including a 23 microamp sleep mode and a 1 microamp shutdown mode, extends the shelf life and runtime of small battery-powered systems.

Applications

Smartphones and Tablets
Provides precise remaining capacity and state-of-health tracking for high-density consumer mobile devices.
Handheld Medical Instruments
Ensures reliable battery monitoring in portable diagnostic tools where accurate runtime prediction is critical.
Portable Industrial Devices
Supports ruggedized handhelds by automatically adjusting for battery aging, temperature changes, and self-discharge.

Getting Started

Engineers can evaluate the device using the BQ27425EVM evaluation module and TI's Battery Management Studio (bqStudio) software. Integration requires an I2C host connection and the configuration of basic battery parameters into the 256 bytes of internal EEPROM.

Also Consider

BQ27441-G1 TITexas Instruments - Offers similar system-side fuel gauging in a leadless SON package which may be easier to assemble than DSBGA.
MAX17048 Maxim Integrated / Analog Devices - An alternative ModelGauge fuel gauge that does not require an external or integrated sense resistor, simplifying hardware design.
