Overview

The BQ7694003DBTR is a high-cell-count battery monitor and protection IC designed for 9 to 15-series lithium-ion, lithium iron phosphate, and other multi-chemistry packs. It provides an integrated AFE for monitoring cell voltages and temperature, alongside hardware-based protection against overvoltage, undervoltage, and overcurrent conditions. The device communicates via an I2C interface and is optimized for power-sensitive applications with a low 130uA active current.

Why Choose This Part

This IC integrates a complete 14-bit ADC for voltage and temperature measurement alongside a 16-bit Coulomb counter for precise state-of-charge tracking. It features built-in hardware protection delays for safety-critical events and supports individual cell balancing via internal or external FETs. The extremely low shutdown current of 1.8uA ensures minimal drain on the battery pack during long-term storage.

Applications

Light Electric Vehicles (LEV)
Monitoring and protection for battery packs in e-bikes, e-scooters, and pedal-assist bicycles ranging from 9S to 15S configurations.
Energy Storage Systems (ESS)
Scalable battery management for backup units and UPS systems requiring precise cell monitoring and fault protection.
Industrial Power Tools
High-performance protection for cordless heavy-duty garden and construction tools with large cell counts.
Uninterruptible Power Supplies
Reliable voltage and current monitoring for multi-chemistry industrial battery backup modules.

Getting Started

Engineers should utilize the BQ76940EVM evaluation module to verify cell balancing and protection thresholds. Design requires an external microcontroller to manage the I2C communication and perform high-level SOC/SOH calculations. Texas Instruments provides the BQStudio software to assist with register configuration and automated testing of the AFE parameters.
