Overview

The BT40E is a high-performance Bluetooth 5.4 module based on the Nordic nRF5340 dual-core SoC, featuring an M33 application processor and an M33 network processor. This variant includes a u.FL connector for external antenna flexibility, supporting complex IoT applications that require simultaneous high-speed data and efficient radio management. With 1280KB of Flash and 276KB of RAM, it provides ample resources for large application codebases and protocol stacks.

Why Choose This Part

The module excels in performance-intensive applications by offloading the radio stack to a dedicated network processor, freeing the 128MHz application core for heavy computation. Its support for a wide supply voltage range from 1.7V to 3.6V and an industrial temperature range of -40C to +85C makes it suitable for diverse deployment environments. The u.FL connector allows for optimized antenna placement in metal enclosures where internal trace antennas would fail.

Applications

Advanced Wearables
Utilizes the dual-core architecture to separate sensor processing from wireless communication for improved power efficiency.
Industrial IoT Gateways
Leverages the u.FL connector for external high-gain antennas to maintain connectivity in challenging RF environments.
Smart Home Hubs
Supports multiprotocol operation including Bluetooth 5.4, Zigbee, and Thread for interoperability across smart devices.
Professional Lighting Control
Enables robust Bluetooth Mesh networking with high security and low latency for large-scale building automation.

Getting Started

Developers can use the Nordic nRF Connect SDK (NCS) and VS Code extension for application development. Since the BT40E is based on the nRF5340, code can be prototyped on the nRF5340-DK before migrating to the Fanstel module footprint. A standard SWD interface is used for programming and debugging the dual-core system.
