Overview

The CMP401GSZ is a high-speed quad comparator designed for low-voltage, high-performance signal processing. It features a fast 20ns to 30ns propagation delay and operates from a single 2.7V to 5V supply or a dual +/-5V supply. With separate input and output power pins, it provides flexibility for interfacing between different logic levels, including 3V and 5V CMOS/TTL systems.

Why Choose This Part

The CMP401GSZ offers an excellent balance of speed and power consumption, drawing only 6.5mA of analog current while maintaining high-speed performance. Its 3mV maximum offset voltage ensures high precision without the need for external trim circuitry. Additionally, the built-in 2mV hysteresis improves noise immunity in environments with slow-moving input signals.

Applications

High-Speed Line Receivers
Utilizes the 30ns propagation delay for restoring signal integrity in high-speed digital communication paths.
Zero-Crossing Detectors
Leverages the low 3mV input offset voltage and 2mV internal hysteresis for accurate timing detection in AC power monitoring.
Window Comparators
The quad-element configuration allows for easy implementation of multi-level threshold detection in battery monitoring systems.
Mixed-Signal Level Shifting
The separate supply pins for input and output sections enable seamless translation between different system logic levels.

Getting Started

When designing with the CMP401GSZ, ensure that the analog and digital supply pins are decoupled with 0.1uF ceramic capacitors placed as close to the SOIC-16 pins as possible. Note that the input range extends to -5V when using dual supplies, but for single-supply operation, the input common-mode range is typically limited to 3.9V. Prototyping is best achieved using a SOIC-16 to DIP adapter on a high-frequency ground-plane PCB to minimize parasitic oscillations.
