Overview

The CP2105-F01-GM is a highly integrated USB-to-Dual-UART bridge controller that provides a simple solution for updating RS-232/RS-485 designs to USB. It includes a USB 2.0 full-speed function controller, USB transceiver, oscillator, and two UART interfaces in a compact 4x4 mm QFN24 package. This device eliminates the need for external timing components and complex firmware development by providing two independent serial ports from a single USB connection.

Why Choose This Part

This controller minimizes PCB footprint by integrating the USB transceiver, voltage regulator, and a 296-byte OTP ROM for customization. It supports dual UART interfaces with independent baud rates and 5V tolerant I/O, allowing it to interface directly with a wide range of logic levels from 3V to 3.6V.

Applications

Industrial Control Systems
Connecting multiple legacy RS-232 or RS-485 industrial controllers to a single USB host port for monitoring and data logging.
Point-of-Sale (POS) Terminals
Managing simultaneous communication with multiple peripherals like receipt printers and barcode scanners via a single USB uplink.
Embedded System Debugging
Providing dual serial consoles for multi-core processors or separate application and wireless module logging.

Getting Started

Developers can use the Silicon Labs Virtual COM Port (VCP) drivers to make the device appear as two standard COM ports to the operating system. Configuration of the internal OTP ROM for VID/PID and serial numbers is performed using the Xpress Configurator tool within the Simplicity Studio environment. The CP2105-EK evaluation kit is available for hardware prototyping and performance testing.

Also Consider

FT2232HL FTDI Chip - Offers dual-channel USB to multi-purpose interfaces including UART, FIFO, JTAG, and SPI at High-Speed (480Mbps) rates.
CP2102N SiLSilicon Labs - A more cost-effective, single-UART alternative if the dual-port functionality is not required.
