Overview

The CY8CMBR3108-LQXI is a dedicated CapSense Express controller designed for implementing capacitive touch interfaces without the need for firmware development. This 8-input device utilizes the patented CSD sensing algorithm and SmartSense auto-tuning to handle varying board parasitics and environmental changes automatically. It operates over a wide voltage range of 1.8V to 5.5V and is optimized for low-power operation, consuming only 22 uA per sensor.

Why Choose This Part

The primary advantage is the configuration-based workflow that eliminates the need for complex C coding or firmware debugging. Integrated SmartSense technology simplifies hardware design by automatically tuning for optimal performance across manufacturing variations. Additionally, the device includes high-sink current GPOs for direct LED driving and flanking sensor suppression to prevent false triggers in dense layouts.

Applications

Industrial Control Panels
Provides robust touch buttons and sliders that can operate through thick overlays and resist interference from liquid spills.
Smart Home Appliances
Enables sleek, modern user interfaces for thermostats and kitchen appliances with integrated LED drivers and buzzer outputs.
Proximity Sensing
Detects the presence of a hand or object to wake a system from deep sleep, improving overall energy efficiency.
Battery-Powered Wearables
Utilizes the ultra-low 2.5 uA deep sleep current and high sensitivity to extend battery life in compact form factors.

Getting Started

Designers should use the EZ-Click Customizer tool to configure sensor parameters, LED behaviors, and I2C registers. Evaluation can be performed using the CY8CKIT-145-40XX or similar CapSense development kits from Infineon. The configuration is stored in on-board non-volatile memory, allowing the device to operate as a standalone controller or as an I2C slave to a host MCU.
