Overview

The CYUSB3014-BZXI is an EZ-USB FX3 SuperSpeed USB 3.0 peripheral controller that integrates an ARM926EJ core with a fully programmable General Programmable Interface (GPIF II). It enables 5-Gbps data transfers by providing a direct bridge between a USB 3.0 host and high-performance data sources like FPGAs, image sensors, or high-speed ADCs.

Why Choose This Part

The part features a 32-bit ARM9 processor running at up to 200 MHz and 512 KB of RAM, allowing for significant on-chip data buffering and custom protocol handling. Its GPIF II is highly flexible, supporting data bus widths of 8, 16, 24, or 32 bits at clock speeds up to 100 MHz to maximize throughput.

Applications

High-Definition Video Imaging
Streaming uncompressed HD video from image sensors to a PC over USB 3.0 using the UVC (USB Video Class) standard.
FPGA-to-USB Bridging
Using the 100-MHz GPIF II interface to transfer high-bandwidth data between an FPGA fabric and a host application.
Machine Vision and Industrial Cameras
Providing the physical layer and protocol processing for high-resolution industrial inspection cameras requiring low latency.
Medical Imaging Systems
Interfacing MRI or ultrasound data acquisition hardware with workstations for real-time processing and display.

Getting Started

Developers should use the EZ-USB FX3 Software Development Kit (SDK), which includes the Eclipse IDE, ARM GCC toolchain, and the GPIF II Designer for configuring the interface state machine. For hardware evaluation, the CYUSB3KIT-003 SuperSpeed Explorer Kit is the standard platform for testing firmware and USB 3.0 connectivity.

Also Consider

FT2232HL FTDI - A simpler USB-to-FIFO bridge for designs that do not need a programmable ARM9 core or 5-Gbps SuperSpeed throughput.
