Overview

The DRI0023 is an Arduino-compatible expansion shield designed for controlling bipolar stepper motors using the Texas Instruments DRV8825 driver IC. It supports an input voltage range of 8.2V to 45V and can deliver up to 1.6A of output current per phase. This shield also features integrated sockets for XBee-form factor wireless modules, allowing for remote motor control via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or RF.

Why Choose This Part

The board comes with a pre-mounted heat sink to handle thermal loads at higher current levels and includes squeeze connectors for secure, tool-less motor wiring. It simplifies system design by breaking out 8 GPIO pins and 6 ADC channels for additional sensors while maintaining compatibility with standard Arduino pinouts.

Applications

Desktop CNC Machines
Provides precise microstepping control for X, Y, and Z axes in small-scale milling or laser engraving equipment.
3D Printer Prototypes
Utilizes the high voltage capability and thermal management for driving NEMA 17 motors in custom FDM printer builds.
Automated Camera Sliders
Enables smooth, low-vibration motion for professional cinematography through high-resolution microstepping.
Wireless Robotics
Integrates motor driving and wireless communication by hosting an XBee or Bluetooth module directly on the motor controller board.

Getting Started

Mount the shield onto an Arduino Uno or Mega and connect a motor power supply between 8.2V and 45V to the dedicated terminals. Use the standard Arduino Stepper library or the AccelStepper library for advanced motion profiles. Current limits should be adjusted via the onboard potentiometer before running the motors to prevent damage.
