DRV8434A - Motor Controller/Driver, Stepper Power Management Evaluation Board
Active61 in stock

Overview

The DRV8434AEVM is a high-performance evaluation module designed to demonstrate the capabilities of the DRV8434A integrated stepper motor driver. This board allows for precise control of bipolar stepper motors, supporting up to 4A peak output current and a wide input voltage range from 4.5V up to 48V. It features an onboard MSP430 MCU to provide a complete USB-to-GUI interface for rapid prototyping and performance evaluation.

Why Choose This Part

The board provides a simplified hardware interface with onboard test points and a USB connection for immediate software-based control. It highlights the DRV8434A integrated current sensing and smart tune technology, which eliminates the need for external sense resistors and manual tuning of decay modes.

Applications

Bipolar Stepper Motor Control
Driving standard 4-wire bipolar stepper motors in industrial or office automation equipment.
Factory Automation
Controlling actuators and stage movements in assembly lines and industrial machinery.
3D Printers and CNC Machines
Managing precise axial movements in additive manufacturing and light-duty milling equipment.
Textile Machinery
Operating high-torque feed mechanisms requiring efficient power management up to 48V.

Getting Started

To begin evaluation, connect a 4.5V to 48V power supply to the VM and GND terminals and attach a bipolar stepper motor to the phase outputs. Install the TI GUI software on a Windows PC to interface with the onboard MCU via USB for configuration of microstepping and current limits. The board includes test points for monitoring STEP, DIR, and output waveforms with an oscilloscope.
