DS3231MZ+TRL
Overview
The DS3231MZ+TRL is a highly accurate, low-power I2C real-time clock (RTC) featuring an integrated microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) resonator and temperature compensation. It maintains a timing accuracy of plus or minus 5ppm over a wide temperature range, significantly reducing the impact of environmental changes on timekeeping. The device provides seconds, minutes, hours, day, date, month, and year information with automatic leap-year compensation.
Why Choose This Part
The integrated MEMS resonator eliminates the need for an external crystal, reducing board space and improving mechanical shock and vibration resistance. Its factory-calibrated temperature compensation ensures consistent 5ppm accuracy, which translates to less than 0.432 seconds of drift per day. The device also includes two programmable time-of-day alarms and a calibrated square-wave output.
Applications
Getting Started
To interface with the DS3231MZ+TRL, connect the SDA and SCL pins to your microcontroller's I2C bus and provide a 3V coin cell battery to the VBAT pin for backup operation. Standard libraries like the Arduino DS3231 library or Linux i2c-dev tools can be used to read and write registers. Ensure the VCC and GND pins are properly decoupled with a 0.1uF capacitor to maintain signal integrity during power transitions.
