Overview

The ECS-2520MV-500-BN-TR is a 50 MHz MultiVolt HCMOS crystal oscillator designed for a wide operating voltage range from 1.6V to 3.6V. This standard XO (Crystal Oscillator) provides a stable clock source with a +/-50ppm frequency stability across an industrial temperature range of -40 to +85 degrees Celsius. It is housed in a compact 2.50mm x 2.00mm 4-SMD package, making it suitable for space-constrained designs.

Why Choose This Part

The MultiVolt feature allows this oscillator to be used across multiple power domains (1.8V, 2.5V, or 3.3V) without changing part numbers, simplifying BOM management. Its small 2520 footprint saves significant PCB area compared to traditional 3225 or 5032 packages. The integrated enable/disable function allows the output to be tri-stated for power-sensitive standby modes.

Applications

Microcontroller Clock Source
Provides a high-speed external clock for MCUs that require a stable 50 MHz reference for internal PLLs and peripherals.
Ethernet Controllers
Functions as a reference clock for networking ICs and PHYs that operate at standard frequency multiples.
Portable Electronics
Utilizes the MultiVolt capability to operate directly from battery-powered rails without additional regulation between 1.6V and 3.6V.
Industrial Automation
Provides reliable timing for PLCs and sensors in harsh environments due to its -40 to +85 Celsius operating range.

Getting Started

To implement this part, connect a stable DC supply between 1.6V and 3.6V to Pin 4 and ground Pin 2. Pin 1 serves as the Enable/Disable control; pulling it high or leaving it floating enables the 50 MHz output on Pin 3, while pulling it low enters a low-power standby state. Ensure a 0.01uF to 0.1uF bypass capacitor is placed as close as possible to the VDD pin to minimize noise.
