Overview

The ECS-3963-080-AU-TR is an 80 MHz crystal oscillator (XO) designed for reliable HCMOS output in a compact 5.0mm x 3.2mm surface mount package. It operates on a standard 3.3V supply and includes an active high enable/disable function on pin 1 to reduce power consumption when the clock is not required. With an extended operating temperature range of -40 to +85 degrees Celsius, it is suitable for demanding environments.

Why Choose This Part

The component offers a robust +/-100ppm frequency stability across an industrial temperature range. Its standard 5032 footprint and 3.3V operation make it a drop-in timing solution for many modern digital circuits. The integrated tri-state output capability allows for easier system testing and power management.

Applications

Microcontroller Clocking
Providing a stable 80 MHz external clock source for high-speed MCUs and digital signal processors.
Ethernet Networking
Acting as a reference clock for network interface controllers and communication hardware.
Industrial Automation
Serving as a timing source for PLCs and industrial sensors requiring operation in wide temperature ranges.
FPGA Logic Timing
Supplying a fixed-frequency reference for high-performance programmable logic designs.

Getting Started

Ensure a 0.01uF bypass capacitor is placed as close as possible to the VDD pin (Pin 4) and GND (Pin 2). Verify that Pin 1 is pulled high or left floating to enable the output, as pulling it low will disable the oscillator and set the output to a high-impedance state. Always follow standard reflow soldering profiles for 4-SMD ceramic packages to avoid thermal shock to the internal crystal.
