Overview

The FM24CL64B-GTR is a 64-Kbit ferroelectric random access memory (F-RAM) chip that functions as a high-reliability non-volatile storage solution. Unlike standard EEPROM, it offers NoDelay writes and significantly higher endurance, making it ideal for systems that require frequent data logging. It operates over a 2.7V to 3.65V supply range and uses a standard I2C interface supporting speeds up to 1 MHz.

Why Choose This Part

This F-RAM provides extreme endurance of 100 trillion (10^14) read/write cycles and 151-year data retention, far exceeding traditional EEPROM. It eliminates the need for software polling or delay loops during writes, as data is written to the memory cell at bus speed. It also features very low power consumption, drawing only 0.1mA at 100kHz and 3uA in standby.

Applications

Continuous Data Logging
Ideal for industrial sensors and medical devices that must record system states or sensor data every few seconds without wearing out the memory cells.
Configuration and State Storage
Used in smart meters and automation controllers to store critical configuration settings that must survive power cycles and frequent updates.
Power-Fail Event Capture
With its fast write speed and lack of write-cycle delays, it can capture system state variables immediately upon detecting a power loss event.

Getting Started

The device is a direct hardware replacement for standard I2C EEPROMs in the 8-SOIC footprint. To begin development, connect the SDA and SCL lines to your microcontroller's I2C peripheral and pull the A0-A2 pins to set the device address. Most standard I2C libraries can communicate with this part by simply removing any software write-cycle delays required for EEPROMs.
