Overview

The GALI-21+ is a wideband Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit (MMIC) amplifier based on InGaP Heterojunction Bipolar Transistor (HBT) technology. It operates from DC up to 8 GHz, providing a flat gain of approximately 9 dB and an output power at 1 dB compression (P1dB) of 12.6 dBm. Housed in a compact SOT-89 package with an exposed metal bottom, it is designed for excellent thermal dissipation and high reliability in demanding RF environments.

Why Choose This Part

The GALI-21+ is internally matched to 50 ohms, eliminating the need for external matching components and simplifying PCB design. Its InGaP HBT construction offers high linearity and stable performance across a wide operating temperature range from -45C to +85C. The SOT-89 package with an integrated heat sink allows for low thermal resistance and easier thermal management in compact RF layouts.

Applications

Cellular and PCS Base Stations
Used as a driver amplifier or gain stage in cellular infrastructure operating in the 800 MHz to 2 GHz bands.
Wideband Instrumentation
Ideal for test equipment and signal conditioning due to its broad DC to 8 GHz frequency range.
Satellite Communications
Serves as a reliable gain block in L-band, S-band, and C-band satellite receivers and transmitters.
ISM Band Applications
Provides amplification for 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz WiFi, Bluetooth, and Zigbee proprietary wireless links.

Getting Started

To implement the GALI-21+, provide a stable DC bias of 3V to 4.1V through a bias tee or an RF choke inductor to the output pin. Ensure the exposed metal paddle is soldered to a large ground plane with multiple thermal vias for proper heat dissipation. Designers should include DC blocking capacitors at both the RF input and RF output ports to prevent DC leakage into adjacent stages.
