Overview

The INA117P is a precision unity-gain differential amplifier designed to measure small differential voltages in the presence of high common-mode signals. It is capable of handling common-mode input voltages up to +/-200V while operating from standard +/-15V supply rails.

Why Choose This Part

The primary advantage is the massive +/-200V common-mode range achieved without external buffered dividers, maintaining a high 0.05% gain accuracy. It simplifies high-voltage sensing circuits by integrating precision thin-film resistors on a single monolithic chip, ensuring excellent thermal tracking and a 120 uV input offset.

Applications

High-Voltage Current Sensing
Monitoring current across a shunt resistor in high-side power lines up to 200V.
Industrial Ground Loop Elimination
Measuring signals between subsystems with significant ground potential differences.
Battery Stack Monitoring
Checking individual cell voltages in high-voltage battery strings.
Isolation Amp Replacement
Providing a low-cost alternative to galvanic isolation for common-mode rejection in non-safety critical applications.

Getting Started

To use the INA117P, provide a bipolar supply between +/-5V and +/-18V and ensure the Ref and Sense pins are properly terminated to ground or a low-impedance node for unity-gain operation. Because it is a through-hole 8-PDIP package, it is easily evaluated on a standard solderless breadboard or prototyping PCB.
