Overview

The INA186A1QDBVRQ1 is an automotive-grade, high-side or low-side current sense amplifier featuring an ultra-low 48uA supply current and high precision. This AEC-Q100 qualified device provides a fixed gain of 25 V/V and is designed for bidirectional current monitoring across a common-mode range that extends from -0.2V to 40V. Its functional safety-capable rating and low input offset of 3uV make it suitable for high-accuracy power management in vehicle systems.

Why Choose This Part

The device excels in power-sensitive designs due to its 48uA typical supply current and 10uA shutdown mode. Its ultra-low 3uV offset voltage enables accurate measurements even with very small shunt resistors, reducing power dissipation in the sense element. Furthermore, its wide 40V common-mode range and AEC-Q100 qualification provide robust performance in harsh automotive electrical environments.

Applications

Body Control Modules (BCM)
Monitoring load currents for lighting, wiper motors, and seat actuators to detect faults and optimize power consumption.
Battery Management Systems
Precise current monitoring for small-signal battery sensing in 12V and 24V automotive architectures.
Telematics and eCall Units
Ensuring reliable power delivery to emergency communication modules while maintaining low quiescent current during standby.
Precision Power Supplies
Feedback loop current sensing in DC/DC converters where low power consumption and high accuracy are critical.

Getting Started

To evaluate this part, use a shunt resistor sized according to your maximum expected current and the 25 V/V gain to stay within the 5.5V output swing. Connect the IN+ and IN- pins across the shunt and bypass the VDD pin with a 0.1uF capacitor. For rapid prototyping, look for TI evaluation modules (EVMs) supporting the INA186 family in the SOT-23 package.
