ISM330ISTR
Overview
The ISM330ISTR from STMicroelectronics is a MEMS inertial module combining a 3-axis accelerometer and 3-axis gyroscope with an embedded sensor processing unit (ISPU) and always-on capabilities. It is intended to deliver processed motion data to a host controller while offloading routine sensor tasks to the on-module processor. The device is designed for compact integration where continuous motion sensing and event detection are required.
Why Choose This Part
Combining a 3D accelerometer and 3D gyroscope with an embedded ISPU reduces host CPU overhead by handling common sensor processing tasks on-chip. The always-on capability enables low-latency event detection and motion wake-up while helping manage system power, and the integrated module simplifies PCB placement and routing compared with separate sensor ICs.
Applications
Getting Started
The ISM330ISTR exposes standard I2C and SPI interfaces for host connection; check the ST product page for datasheets, application notes, and evaluation kits. ST publishes MEMS sensor drivers and example code on its website and GitHub; those drivers integrate with STM32Cube and common MCU toolchains such as STM32CubeIDE, Keil MDK, and GCC-based toolchains. For early development, connect the sensor to an evaluation MCU or Nucleo/Discovery board and use the provided example projects to verify communication and sample acquisition.
