Overview

The ISO1050DWR is a galvanically isolated CAN transceiver designed for use in harsh environments where ground loops or high common-mode voltages are present. It integrates a logic-side input/output buffer and a high-voltage silicon dioxide (SiO2) isolation barrier that supports data rates up to 1Mbps. This device ensures reliable communication by protecting the CAN controller from high-voltage transients often found in industrial and automotive systems.

Why Choose This Part

The device offers a high transient immunity of 50-kV/us and includes a TXD dominant time-out function to prevent bus blocking during hardware faults. It is certified under UL 1577 and VDE standards, providing reinforced insulation and reliable fail-safe outputs when the input power is lost. Its wide operating temperature range from -55C to 105C makes it suitable for extreme environmental conditions.

Applications

Industrial Automation
Provides robust communication in factory floor environments with high electrical noise and ground potential differences.
Solar Inverters
Isolates the control logic from high-voltage DC/AC power stages to improve safety and system reliability.
Battery Management Systems (BMS)
Safely bridges the communication gap between high-voltage battery stacks and the low-voltage vehicle control unit.
Motor Control
Protects sensitive microcontrollers from switching noise and transients generated by high-power motor drivers.

Getting Started

To evaluate this part, use the ISO1050EVM evaluation module which allows for easy probing of CAN bus signals and isolation performance. Ensure that the VCC1 (logic side) and VCC2 (bus side) are powered by independent, isolated power supplies to maintain the integrity of the galvanic barrier. Place a 120-ohm termination resistor at the ends of the CAN bus and utilize bypass capacitors as close to the supply pins as possible.
