Overview

The KF33BDT-TR is a low dropout (LDO) positive voltage regulator that provides a fixed 3.3V output from an input supply of up to 20V. It is capable of delivering up to 500mA of load current while maintaining a very low quiescent current of 0.5mA typical and a dropout voltage of approximately 0.4V. This regulator is housed in a DPAK package and includes an inhibit function for logic-controlled electronic shutdown.

Why Choose This Part

This regulator is highly efficient for its class, requiring only a small 2.2 microfarad capacitor for stability, which saves board space. It features internal current and thermal limiting to protect both the IC and the downstream load from fault conditions. The TTL-compatible inhibit pin allows for precise power sequencing and energy management in complex multi-rail systems.

Applications

Battery Powered Equipment
Low quiescent current and electronic shutdown mode help extend battery life in portable electronics.
Post-Regulator for Switching Supplies
High PSRR of 80dB to 60dB across 120Hz to 10kHz helps filter switching noise in sensitive analog stages.
Embedded System Power
Provides a stable 3.3V rail for microcontrollers and digital logic from standard 5V or 12V DC buses.
Industrial Control Systems
Wide operating temperature range of -40 to 125 degrees Celsius suits harsh environmental conditions.

Getting Started

When designing with the KF33BDT-TR, ensure the input and output capacitors are placed as close to the DPAK pins as possible to maintain stability. The DPAK tab is electrically connected to the ground pin and should be soldered to a copper plane to act as a heatsink for thermal dissipation at higher current loads. Consult the STMicroelectronics KF series datasheet to calculate the required copper area based on your expected power dissipation and ambient temperature.
