Overview

The L6234PD013TR is a three-phase brushless DC (BLDC) motor driver IC fabricated in BiCDMOS technology. It integrates a power stage consisting of three DMOS half-bridges capable of delivering up to 5A peak current and 4A continuous output. Designed for a wide supply voltage range from 7V to 52V, it simplifies the control of high-power BLDC motors by providing independent logic inputs and enable pins for each half-bridge.

Why Choose This Part

The IC features integrated cross-conduction protection and fast free-wheeling diodes, which significantly reduces the external component count and PCB footprint. Its PowerSO20 package with an exposed pad provides excellent thermal performance, supporting operations in temperatures up to 125 degrees Celsius while maintaining current capability. Logic-level compatibility and a dedicated 10V reference output simplify interfacing with TTL-level microcontrollers and external sensing circuits.

Applications

Brushless DC Motor Control
Driving the stator coils of 3-phase BLDC motors in high-power industrial or hobbyist applications.
Robotic Actuators
Controlling precise movement in robotic limbs and joint actuators requiring up to 4A continuous current.
Fan and Pump Drives
Managing high-voltage fan and pump systems in industrial equipment where thermal protection and cross-conduction prevention are critical.
3D Printer Extruders
Providing high-torque motor control for extrusion or motion systems requiring 52V overhead.

Getting Started

To evaluate this driver, engineers typically use the EVAL6234N evaluation board or integrate the IC into a custom PCB with adequate thermal copper pouring for the PowerSO20 slug. The control logic requires PWM signals for the three half-bridge inputs and EN pins; ensure the thermal shutdown and ground connections are properly routed according to the datasheet's layout guidelines for high-current paths.
