Overview

The LAN7850-I/8JX is a high-performance, single-chip USB 2.0 to 10/100/1000 Ethernet controller with an integrated Gigabit PHY. It supports Energy Efficient Ethernet (IEEE 802.3az) and features specialized NetDetach technology to automatically manage USB bus attachment based on the Ethernet cable status. Designed for industrial temperature ranges, it provides a compact 8x8mm footprint for adding high-speed networking to embedded systems via a standard USB 2.0 interface.

Why Choose This Part

The device integrates the MAC and PHY into a single 56-pin package, reducing BOM count and PCB complexity. It offers multiple low-power suspend modes (SUSPEND0-3) and consumes only 211mA during 1000BASE-T full-duplex operation at USB Hi-Speed. The inclusion of 512 bytes of EEPROM and 12KB of RAM allows for flexible configuration and efficient packet buffering without external memory.

Applications

Embedded Single Board Computers
Provides a dedicated Gigabit Ethernet port for SBCs that only expose USB 2.0 headers, ensuring reliable high-bandwidth connectivity.
Industrial USB Dongles
Ideal for creating rugged USB-to-Ethernet adapters used in field service and industrial automation environments with -40C to 85C operating requirements.
Networked Docking Stations
Serves as the primary network interface in docking stations, supporting Wake-on-LAN and advanced power management modes.
Point-of-Sale Terminals
Enables reliable wired networking in retail hardware using existing USB controller infrastructure.
