Overview

The LAN9500AI-ABZJ-TR is a high-performance, small-form-factor USB 2.0 to 10/100 Ethernet controller designed for industrial temperature ranges. It integrates a 10/100 Ethernet MAC and PHY, an HSIC interface, and a USB 2.0 device controller into a single 56-pin QFN package. The device features hardware-level checksum offloading and NetDetach technology to reduce system power consumption and CPU overhead.

Why Choose This Part

This controller reduces CPU utilization through TCP/UDP/IP/ICMP checksum offload support and automatic payload padding. It simplifies PCB design with HP Auto-MDIX support for automatic cable detection and an integrated core regulator that allows for single-supply operation. The industrial temperature rating and NetDetach power-saving mode make it suitable for harsh or power-constrained environments.

Applications

Industrial Embedded Systems
Provides reliable Ethernet connectivity for industrial PCs and controllers using existing USB 2.0 ports.
SBC Networking
Adds high-speed wired networking to single-board computers or modules that lack a native MAC/PHY interface.
Docking Stations
Integrates 10/100 Ethernet into USB-based universal docking stations and port replicators.
Point of Sale (POS) Terminals
Enables secure and stable wired internet connections for networked retail hardware.

Getting Started

Engineers can evaluate this IC using the EVB-LAN9500A-QFN evaluation board. Drivers are widely available for Windows, Linux, and macOS, and the on-chip EEPROM controller allows for easy storage of MAC addresses and configuration data. Implementation requires an external 25MHz crystal and standard magnetics for the Ethernet interface.
