Overview

The LAN9514I-JZX is a high-performance, industrial-temperature USB 2.0 hub and 10/100 Ethernet controller. It integrates a 4-port USB 2.0 hub with an IEEE 802.3/802.3u compliant Ethernet MAC and PHY into a single 64-pin QFN package. This solution allows designers to add Ethernet connectivity and multiple USB ports to an embedded system via a single USB upstream host connection.

Why Choose This Part

The IC simplifies PCB design by integrating the Ethernet PHY and USB hub into a single chip, reducing overall BOM count and footprint. It supports advanced power management with multiple suspend modes (SUSPEND0, SUSPEND1, SUSPEND2) and is rated for industrial temperature ranges. The inclusion of NetDetach and HP Auto-MDIX technologies further enhances field reliability and ease of cabling.

Applications

Embedded Single Board Computers
Expanding I/O for SoC-based designs that require both high-speed USB expansion and wired networking.
Industrial Docking Stations
Providing reliable 10/100 Mbps Ethernet and USB 2.0 connectivity in harsh environments from -40C to 85C.
Networked Printers and Peripherals
Enabling legacy USB-only peripherals to interface with Ethernet networks while providing extra downstream ports for internal modules.
Gaming Consoles and Set-Top Boxes
Adding integrated networking and controller expansion ports via a single internal USB interface.

Getting Started

Designers can evaluate the chip using the EVB-LAN9514 evaluation board to test USB and Ethernet throughput. Ensure the 64-QFN exposed pad is properly soldered to a ground plane for thermal management as the device can draw up to 288mA during full-duplex 100BASE-TX operation. Microchip provides driver support for Windows, Linux, and various RTOS environments to accelerate software integration.
