Overview

The LD1117S18TR is a low-dropout linear regulator providing a fixed 1.8V output at up to 800mA. It is designed to operate with an input voltage up to 15V and features internal current and thermal limiting to protect against circuit faults. This device is commonly used for powering low-voltage logic circuits and microcontrollers in surface-mount designs.

Why Choose This Part

The regulator offers a high Power Supply Rejection Ratio (PSRR) of 75dB at 120Hz, making it effective at filtering input noise. Its integrated thermal and current limit protection ensures robustness against overloads, while the 800mA output capacity supports relatively high-current digital loads in a compact footprint.

Applications

Microcontroller Power Supply
Providing a stable 1.8V rail for modern low-power MCU cores and I/O banks.
Post-Regulation
Cleaning up ripple from switching power supplies to provide a low-noise voltage source for sensitive components.
Active Termination
Used in high-speed bus termination where a stable reference voltage is required.
Battery Powered Systems
Regulating battery voltages down to 1.8V for portable electronics using the SOT-223 package for heat dissipation.

Getting Started

When designing with this LDO, ensure at least 10uF of capacitance is placed on the output for stability. Account for the 1.2V maximum dropout voltage to ensure the input remains above 3.0V for proper 1.8V regulation at full load. Use a large copper pour on the SOT-223 Tab (Pin 4) to manage thermal dissipation when operating with high input-to-output voltage differentials.
