Overview

The LM1117MPX-1.8/NOPB is a low-dropout linear regulator providing a fixed 1.8V output at up to 800mA. It is designed for efficiency in low-voltage digital circuits, featuring internal current limiting and thermal overload protection to ensure system reliability. This SOT-223 packaged device is a staple for regulating 1.8V rails from higher voltage DC sources up to 15V.

Why Choose This Part

This regulator offers a high Power Supply Rejection Ratio (PSRR) of 75dB at 120Hz, making it effective at filtering ripple from preceding switching stages. It provides a robust 800mA output current in a compact SOT-223 footprint, balancing thermal performance with space efficiency. The inclusion of thermal shutdown and current limiting protects the device and the load during fault conditions.

Applications

FPGA and DSP Core Power
Providing the stable 1.8V rail required for many digital signal processors and low-power FPGA cores.
Industrial Control Modules
Regulating power for logic circuits in AC drive power stages and servo drive control modules.
Network and Server PSU
Used as a post-regulator in high-efficiency merchant network power supplies for local 1.8V digital logic.
Medical Imaging Equipment
Integrated into ultrasound scanners for clean, low-noise power regulation in sensitive signal paths.

Getting Started

When designing with the LM1117-1.8, ensure a minimum of 10uF tantalum output capacitance is used for stability as specified in the datasheet. Layout the SOT-223 package with adequate copper pour on the Tab (Pin 4) to manage heat dissipation, as the thermal resistance is highly dependent on the PCB area. Verify that the input voltage remains above 3.2V to satisfy the dropout requirements for a 1.8V output.
