Overview

The LM2576S-5.0/NOPB is a 3A monolithic step-down switching regulator that provides a fixed 5V output. It operates at a 52kHz switching frequency and is designed to minimize the number of external components required for a complete power supply circuit. This regulator supports a wide input voltage range from 4V to 40V and includes internal frequency compensation and a fixed-frequency oscillator.

Why Choose This Part

This regulator offers high current capability of 3A in a surface-mount DDPAK/TO-263 package with only 5 pins. It features a low-power standby mode with a typical 50uA sleep current and includes thermal shutdown and current limit protection for reliability.

Applications

High-Efficiency Step-Down Regulation
Used as a primary regulator for local on-card regulation from unregulated DC sources.
Simple Switching Power Supplies
Ideal for designs requiring a robust 5V rail without the complexity of modern high-frequency controllers.
Battery Powered Systems
Suitable for applications needing 3A of current where linear regulator heat dissipation would be excessive.
Industrial Control Rails
Provides a stable 5V supply for logic and sensors in industrial environments with input swings up to 40V.

Getting Started

To implement this part, ensure the use of a low-ESR output capacitor and an inductor rated for at least 3A. Layout is critical even at 52kHz; keep the feedback trace away from the inductor and use a wide ground plane for thermal management of the TO-263 package. The ON/OFF pin can be tied to ground for continuous operation or driven by logic for power sequencing.
