Overview

The LM2576T-12/NOPB is a monolithic buck switching regulator providing a fixed 12V output with a 3A load capability. It operates at a fixed 52kHz switching frequency and requires a minimal number of external components, making it a robust solution for step-down power conversion. The TO-220-5 through-hole package ensures high thermal dissipation for demanding power applications.

Why Choose This Part

This regulator features an internal oscillator and high-efficiency operation to minimize heat sink requirements. It includes TTL-compatible shutdown and a low-power standby mode with only 50uA typical standby current. The device is designed to handle up to 40V input while maintaining full protection via thermal shutdown and current limit features.

Applications

Industrial Motor Drives
Providing stable 12V logic power from higher voltage industrial rails for motor controllers and gate drivers.
Network and Server Infrastructure
Efficient step-down regulation for peripheral cards and interface hardware requiring 12V supply rails.
Test and Measurement Equipment
Used in lab instrumentation and data acquisition systems to derive 12V power from primary DC inputs.
Major Appliances
Regulating power for control boards and user interface modules in domestic white goods.

Getting Started

When designing with the LM2576, place the input bypass capacitor as close as possible to the VIN and Ground pins to minimize noise. Select an inductor with a current rating at least 1.15 times the maximum load current and use a Schottky catch diode to ensure high efficiency. For prototyping, the TO-220 package is compatible with standard 0.1 inch pitch breadboards and through-hole prototyping plates.
