Overview

The LM2576T-ADJ/LF03 is a monolithic integrated circuit that provides all the active functions for a step-down (buck) switching regulator. This adjustable version can provide an output voltage range from 1.23V to 55V and is capable of driving a 3A load with excellent line and load regulation. It simplifies power supply design by requiring only a minimum number of external components and featuring internal frequency compensation and a fixed-frequency oscillator.

Why Choose This Part

The device operates at a switching frequency of 52kHz, allowing for smaller filter components than linear alternatives. It includes internal protection features such as cycle-by-cycle current limiting and thermal shutdown. The wide input voltage range up to 60V makes it suitable for high-voltage industrial rails, and the TO-220 package allows for easy heat sinking in high-power applications.

Applications

High-Efficiency Step-Down Regulator
Used as a primary regulator in distributed power systems where high efficiency is required compared to linear regulators.
Motor Drive Power Supply
Provides stable DC rails for motor control logic and gate drivers in industrial environments.
Industrial Instrumentation
Ideal for test and measurement equipment requiring a wide input voltage range up to 60V.
Battery Chargers
Can be configured as a high-current buck charger for various battery chemistries due to its 3A output capability.

Getting Started

To implement this regulator, select a Schottky catch diode, an inductor typically between 100uH and 1000uH, and low-ESR electrolytic capacitors for input and output filtering. Ensure the feedback resistor divider is placed close to the IC to minimize noise pickup. For high-current operation, bolt the TO-220 tab to a copper plane or heat sink to manage thermal dissipation.
