Overview

The LM2901D is a versatile quad differential comparator designed to operate from a single power supply over a wide range of voltages from 5V to 36V. It features four independent voltage comparators with open-collector outputs, allowing for easy integration into wired-AND logic circuits and level shifting applications. This device is specifically rated for an extended temperature range of -40C to 125C, making it suitable for demanding industrial environments.

Why Choose This Part

The quad-channel configuration in a single SOIC-14 package provides high functional density and saves PCB real estate. Its low quiescent current of 0.8mA at 5V and low input bias current of 0.25uA make it efficient for battery-powered or high-impedance sensing applications. The device's ability to handle input common-mode voltages down to ground simplifies circuit design in single-supply systems.

Applications

Limit Comparators
Used in window comparator circuits to monitor if a signal stays within a predefined voltage range.
Level Shifting
The open-collector output allows interfacing between different logic families with varying supply voltages.
Industrial Automation
Ideal for motor drives and factory control systems requiring multi-channel signal monitoring.
Power Supply Monitoring
Employed in server PSUs and UPS systems for over-voltage or under-voltage detection.

Getting Started

To use the LM2901D, connect a pull-up resistor from the open-collector output to the desired logic level voltage. Ensure the input signals remain within the 0V to 36V range and do not exceed the supply rail by more than the specified limits. Decouple the VCC pin with a 0.1uF ceramic capacitor placed close to the device to minimize switching noise.
