Overview

The LM2901N is a quad independent precision voltage comparator designed to operate from a single power supply over a wide range of voltages from 2V to 36V. This version comes in a 14-pin PDIP through-hole package, making it ideal for prototyping, educational projects, and legacy system maintenance. It features open-collector outputs, allowing for easy integration into various logic levels through the use of external pull-up resistors.

Why Choose This Part

The through-hole PDIP package allows for easy use with standard breadboards and sockets without needing surface-mount adapters. Its wide operating temperature range of -40C to 125C and 36V maximum supply voltage ensure reliability in harsh industrial and automotive environments.

Applications

Limit Comparators
Monitoring voltage rails in industrial power supplies to trigger alarms or shutdowns when thresholds are exceeded.
Zero Crossing Detectors
Identifying the zero-voltage point in AC waveforms for timing and synchronization in motor drives or UPS systems.
Logic Level Shifting
Utilizing the open-collector output to interface high-voltage analog signals with 3.3V or 5V digital logic inputs.
Oscillator Circuits
Building simple square-wave generators or pulse-width modulation (PWM) controllers in appliance and tool electronics.

Getting Started

To use the LM2901N, connect a pull-up resistor from the output pin to your desired logic voltage level, as the open-collector architecture cannot drive high signals on its own. Ensure the common-mode input voltage remains within the specified 0V to VCC-1.5V range for accurate switching. For prototyping, it can be plugged directly into a standard breadboard or a 14-pin DIP socket.
