Overview

The LM317BTG is an adjustable three-terminal positive voltage regulator capable of supplying in excess of 1.5A over an output voltage range of 1.2V to 37V. This through-hole TO-220 device is exceptionally easy to use and requires only two external resistors to set the output voltage. It features internal current limiting, thermal shutdown, and safe area compensation, making it essentially blowout-proof under standard operating conditions.

Its floating architecture allows the device to regulate much higher voltages relative to ground, provided the maximum input-to-output differential of 40V is not exceeded.

Getting Started

To implement the LM317BTG, connect a 0.1uF disc or 1uF tantalum capacitor on the input and a 1uF tantalum or 25uF electrolytic capacitor on the output to improve transient response. Ensure the R1 resistor (typically 240 ohms) is placed between the Adjustment and Output pins to maintain the 1.2V reference voltage across it.
