Overview

The LM317D2T-TR is a monolithic integrated circuit in a D2PAK package intended for use as a positive adjustable voltage regulator. It is designed to supply up to 1.5A of load current with an output voltage adjustable over a range of 1.2V to 37V. This versatile regulator is exceptionally easy to use and requires only two external resistors to set the output voltage.

Why Choose This Part

The device features internal current limiting, thermal shutdown, and safe area compensation, making it essentially blowout-proof under standard operating conditions. It offers a high ripple rejection of up to 80dB at 120Hz and eliminates the need for stocking many different fixed voltages in production environments.

Applications

Adjustable Power Supplies
Primary regulation stage for laboratory or benchtop power supplies requiring variable output voltages.
Local On-Card Regulation
Eliminating noise and distribution problems associated with single-point regulation by placing the regulator directly on the PCB.
Programmable Output Regulation
Using a fixed resistor and a digital-to-analog converter or digital potentiometer to create a software-controlled power rail.
Precision Current Regulator
Configuring the device as a high-side constant current source for driving LEDs or charging batteries.

Getting Started

To implement this regulator, connect a resistor between the VO and ADJ pins and a second resistor from ADJ to ground to set the output voltage. Ensure adequate PCB copper area is tied to the D2PAK tab for heat dissipation, and place a 0.1uF disc capacitor near the input if the device is far from the filter capacitors.
