Overview

The LM339DR is a quad-channel independent voltage comparator designed to operate over a wide range of voltages from a single power supply. Each of its four elements features an open-collector output, allowing for easy integration in systems where level shifting or wired-OR logic is required. It is a cost-effective solution for applications requiring multiple comparison channels in a compact 14-SOIC package.

Why Choose This Part

The LM339DR offers high versatility with a supply range of 2V to 36V and a low quiescent current of 0.8mA at 5V. Its open-collector architecture simplifies interfacing with different logic families and allows for easy output paralleling.

Applications

Level Shifting
Converting high-voltage logic signals down to lower voltage levels by using the open-collector output with a specific pull-up resistor.
Window Comparators
Utilizing two elements to monitor if a voltage signal stays within a defined upper and lower threshold.
Oscillators and Multivibrators
Generating square waves or timing pulses in basic analog control circuits.
Zero-Crossing Detectors
Detecting when an input signal passes through a reference ground for timing or synchronization tasks.

Getting Started

When designing with the LM339DR, ensure a pull-up resistor is connected to the output, as it cannot drive a high signal on its own. For rapid prototyping, this IC is compatible with SOIC-14 to DIP adapter boards for use in standard breadboards. Refer to the Texas Instruments datasheet for detailed input offset voltage and response time characteristics across the 0 to 70 degree Celsius temperature range.
