Overview

The LM35DZ/NOPB is a precision analog temperature sensor calibrated directly in degrees Celsius. It provides a linear output of 10mV/degC over a 0degC to 100degC range, operating from a wide supply voltage of 4V to 30V. Because the device is internally calibrated, it does not require external trimming or calibration to maintain typical accuracies of +/-1.5degC.

Why Choose This Part

The sensor features very low self-heating (0.08degC in still air) and a low-impedance output of 0.1 Ohms for a 1mA load, making it easy to interface with analog-to-digital converters. Its low quiescent current of 56uA ensures minimal power draw, which is ideal for battery-powered remote sensing applications.

Applications

Power Supply Thermal Monitoring
Used to monitor heat sink temperatures in linear or switching power supplies to trigger cooling fans or thermal shutdown.
HVAC Environmental Sensing
Integration into building automation systems for ambient air temperature measurement within its 0degC to 100degC operating range.
Battery Pack Protection
Provides real-time thermal feedback during charging cycles to prevent lithium-ion or NiMH battery degradation.

Getting Started

To use this sensor, connect Pin 1 to a 4V-30V DC source, Pin 3 to ground, and Pin 2 to a high-impedance analog input such as an MCU ADC. Since the output is 10mV per degree, a 250mV reading corresponds to 25degC. For longer cable runs, add a 2k ohm series resistor to isolate capacitive loads and prevent output oscillation.

Also Consider

TMP36GT9Z Analog Devices - Provides a similar 10mV/degC scale but includes a 500mV offset to allow for negative temperature measurements without a dual-supply rail.
DS18B20+ Maxim Integrated - A digital alternative using the 1-Wire protocol, ideal for systems where analog signal degradation over long distances is a concern.
