Overview

The LMV393IPWR is a dual-channel, low-voltage comparator featuring open-collector outputs for flexible logic-level shifting. It operates from a supply range of 2.7V to 5.5V, making it ideal for low-power, battery-operated systems where board space is at a premium. With a typical propagation delay of 600ns, it offers a cost-effective solution for general-purpose voltage monitoring and signal conditioning.

Why Choose This Part

This comparator provides a balance of low power consumption, with a maximum quiescent current of 250uA, and a high output drive capability of up to 84mA at 5V. Its 8-TSSOP package offers a small footprint for dense PCB layouts while maintaining an industrial operating temperature range of -40C to 85C.

Applications

Battery Monitoring
Used in cordless power tools and appliances to detect low-voltage conditions and trigger shutdown sequences.
Logic Level Translation
The open-collector output allows the device to interface between different logic voltage rails by using an external pull-up resistor.
Zero-Crossing Detection
Utilized in server PSUs and industrial automation to synchronize switching circuits with AC line cycles.
Window Comparators
Combined with another element to monitor if a sensor signal remains within a specific voltage range in building automation systems.

Getting Started

To evaluate this part, place it on a standard 8-TSSOP breakout board for breadboarding or prototype use. Ensure a pull-up resistor is connected from the output pin to the desired logic rail (up to 5.5V) as the open-collector architecture cannot drive high independently. Decouple the VCC pin with a 0.1uF ceramic capacitor placed as close to the IC as possible.
