Overview

The LN60E840E is a high-performance M.2 B-Key module that integrates the Nordic nRF9160 LTE-M/NB-IoT modem with the nRF52840 Bluetooth 5.2 SoC. This hybrid wireless solution provides global cellular connectivity and local mesh networking (Thread/Zigbee) or BLE in a compact 30x42mm form factor. It is designed for complex IoT gateways that require simultaneous wide-area and short-range wireless communication.

Why Choose This Part

The module offers a dual-core architecture with an ARM Cortex M33 for application processing and high-efficiency wireless stacks. Its M.2 B-Key interface simplifies integration into industrial PCs or carrier boards while providing 37 GPIOs for extensive peripheral connectivity. With a wide operating voltage of 2.5V to 5.5V and a temperature range of -40C to +85C, it is well-suited for harsh environmental deployments.

Applications

Cellular IoT Gateways
Acting as a bridge between local Bluetooth Low Energy or Thread sensor networks and cellular cloud backends.
Industrial Asset Tracking
Utilizing LTE-M/NB-IoT for global location reporting and BLE for local configuration or indoor positioning.
Smart City Infrastructure
Managing large-scale sensor deployments using Zigbee or Thread mesh with a cellular uplink for data aggregation.

Getting Started

Development is supported through the Nordic nRF Connect SDK, which includes libraries for LTE-M, NB-IoT, and Bluetooth stacks. Engineers can use the M262840E evaluation board for rapid prototyping and access the module via SWD or JTAG interfaces for debugging. Ensure the u.FL connectors are properly populated with external antennas for both cellular and Bluetooth frequencies.
