Overview

The LPC54616J512BD208E is an ARM Cortex-M4 based microcontroller running at up to 180MHz, designed for applications requiring high connectivity and sophisticated human-machine interfaces. It features 512KB of flash, 200KB of RAM, and an integrated LCD controller to support graphical displays without the overhead of an external GPU. With 171 I/O pins in a 208-LQFP package, it provides extensive expandability for complex industrial systems.

Why Choose This Part

This MCU offers a high pin count of 171 I/O, allowing for simultaneous connection of large external memory via the EMC and various serial peripherals. It provides a balanced power profile at 24mA at 180MHz while including dedicated hardware for SHA and CRC to offload security and integrity tasks from the main core.

Applications

Industrial Control Panels
Utilizes the integrated LCD controller and 180MHz performance to drive high-resolution user interfaces on industrial machinery.
Communication Gateways
Leverages Ethernet, CANbus, and multiple UART/SPI interfaces to bridge different industrial protocols.
Data Loggers
Uses the 16KB EEPROM for non-volatile configuration storage and the External Memory Controller (EMC) for large data buffers.

Getting Started

Development is supported by the MCUXpresso SDK and IDE, which provide drivers for the LCD and Ethernet peripherals. For hardware evaluation, the LPC546xx series is typically used with the OM13092 LPCXpresso54608 development board which shares the same architecture. Firmware can be programmed and debugged via the on-chip Serial Wire Debug (SWD) or JTAG interfaces.
