Overview

The MAX30102 is a high-sensitivity pulse oximeter and heart-rate sensor integrated circuit designed for wearable devices. It combines internal LEDs, photodetectors, and low-noise electronics with ambient light rejection to simplify the optical design of biometric monitoring systems.

Why Choose This Part

The module integrates both red and IR LEDs with a single 1.8V supply and a separate 3.3V/5.0V supply for the LEDs, reducing external component count. Its low power consumption of 1.5mA during operation and 0.7uA in standby mode makes it ideal for mobile applications.

Applications

Wearable Health Monitors
Integration into smartwatches or fitness bands for continuous heart-rate and SpO2 tracking.
Pulse Oximetry
Medical-grade peripheral oxygen saturation monitoring using dual-wavelength red and infrared LEDs.
Embedded Vital Sign Monitoring
Battery-powered remote patient monitoring systems requiring low run current and small footprints.

Getting Started

Engineers typically interface with the device via a standard I2C bus using a 1.8V or 3.3V logic level. For rapid prototyping, many use the MAX30102ACCEVKIT evaluation kit or common breakout boards compatible with Arduino and ESP32 environments.
