Overview

The MAX4081FASA+T is a high-side, bidirectional current-sense amplifier designed for systems where the monitored line voltage can significantly exceed the supply voltage. It features a wide input common-mode range from 4.5V to 76V, making it suitable for high-voltage battery stacks and industrial power rails.

Why Choose This Part

This amplifier offers a low 100uV input offset voltage and a tight 0.1 percent gain accuracy for precision measurements. Its ability to operate with an independent supply voltage provides significant flexibility in power sequencing and protection.

Applications

Battery Stack Monitoring
Tracking charge and discharge currents in multi-cell battery packs up to 76V.
Motor Control Feedback
Providing real-time current data for phase or DC bus monitoring in industrial drives.
Photovoltaic Systems
Monitoring current flow in solar string inverters and charge controllers.
Telecom Power Rails
High-side current sensing in 48V distributed power architectures.

Getting Started

When prototyping, ensure the shunt resistor is Kelvin-connected to the RS+ and RS- pins to maintain accuracy. The REF1 and REF2 pins should be used to set the output quiescent level for bidirectional sensing, typically centered at VCC/2.
