Overview

The MAX97220AEVKIT+ is an evaluation board designed to demonstrate the capabilities of the MAX97220A, a differential input DirectDrive stereo headphone amplifier. It provides a platform to test the IC's ability to drive 125mW into 32-ohm loads or provide a 3VRMS output into 600-ohm loads from a single 2.5V to 5.5V supply. The board eliminates the need for bulky DC-blocking capacitors at the output, saving space and improving low-frequency response.

Why Choose This Part

The DirectDrive architecture generates a ground-referenced output from a single supply, which removes the need for large output-coupling capacitors and prevents low-frequency roll-off. It features fully differential inputs for excellent noise rejection and allows for externally adjustable gain to match specific system requirements.

Applications

High-Fidelity Headphone Outputs
Ideal for driving high-impedance headphones up to 600 ohms with 3VRMS output in portable audio players.
Line-Level Output Buffering
Used as a high-quality line driver for audio source equipment requiring a clean, capacitor-free signal path.
Portable Media Devices
Integrates into battery-powered devices thanks to its 2.5V to 5.5V operating range and low-power shutdown mode.

Getting Started

Connect a 2.5V to 5.5V DC power supply to the VDD and GND pads. Apply a differential or single-ended audio signal to the input headers and connect headphones or a load to the 3.5mm stereo jack. Use the onboard jumpers to toggle the shutdown pin and evaluate power-saving features.
