MC34063ABD-TR
Overview
The MC34063ABD-TR is a versatile monolithic control circuit containing the primary functions required for DC-to-DC converters. It features an internal temperature compensated reference, a comparator, a controlled duty cycle oscillator with an active current limit circuit, a driver, and a high-current output switch. This regulator can be configured for step-up, step-down, or voltage-inverting applications with a minimum number of external components.
Why Choose This Part
The device operates over a wide input voltage range from 3V to 40V and includes 2% reference accuracy for stable output control. Its ability to support boost, buck, and inverting topologies makes it a highly flexible tool for power stage design using a single IC family.

Getting Started
Design begins by calculating external resistor values for the voltage divider and selecting an inductor and timing capacitor based on the 33kHz switching frequency. Standard application circuits for all three topologies are available in the STMicroelectronics datasheet to simplify component selection. Evaluation can be performed on a generic SO-8 breakout board or a custom prototype PCB.
