Overview

The MCP2542FD-E/SN is a high-speed CAN FD transceiver designed for high-speed communication up to 8Mbps. It serves as the interface between a CAN protocol controller and the physical two-wire CAN bus, providing differential transmit and receive capability. This device is specifically optimized for CAN FD (Flexible Data rate) networks, meeting the ISO 11898-2:2016 standards.

Why Choose This Part

It features an integrated Vio pin allowing direct connection to microcontrollers with I/O voltages from 1.8V to 5V without level shifters. The device offers extremely low standby current of 4uA and AEC-Q100 Rev. G qualification for high reliability in harsh environments. Additionally, it provides automatic thermal shutdown and ground fault detection to protect the node and the bus.

Applications

Automotive In-Vehicle Networks
Used in body electronics, powertrain, and chassis systems requiring robust communication in 12V and 24V environments.
Industrial Automation
Facilitates reliable data exchange in factory automation systems and motor control applications using CANopen or DeviceNet.
High-Speed Data Acquisition
Ideal for systems requiring data rates up to 8Mbps to handle large sensor payloads with low latency.

Getting Started

To evaluate this transceiver, use the MCP2542FD CAN FD Evaluation Board or pair it with a PIC32 or dsPIC33 microcontroller featuring an integrated CAN FD controller. Ensure a 4.5V to 5.5V Vdd supply is provided, and connect the Vio pin to your microcontroller's logic supply voltage. Standard 120-ohm termination resistors should be placed at the ends of the CAN bus network.
