MCP2561-E/P

MCHPMCP2561-E/P

Microchip Technology
1/1 Transceiver Half CANbus 8-PDIP
Active2,728 in stock

Overview

The MCP2561-E/P is a high-speed CAN transceiver that provides the interface between a CAN protocol controller and the physical two-wire CAN bus. This device supports data rates up to 1 Mbps and serves as a robust buffer for automotive and industrial networks operating at 5V logic levels. It features a standby mode for ultra-low power consumption and is designed to meet the stringent requirements of high-temperature environments.

Why Choose This Part

The MCP2561-E/P is ideal for prototyping due to its through-hole 8-PDIP package, which is breadboard-compatible. It features very low standby current of 5uA and includes internal protection against short circuits and thermal overload, ensuring reliability in harsh electrical environments. The 1.8V to 5.5V VIO range allows for direct interfacing with low-voltage microcontrollers without external level shifters.

Applications

Vehicle Diagnostic Ports
Standardized interface for OBD-II scanners and vehicle diagnostic tools requiring reliable CAN bus physical layer communication.
Industrial Control Networks
Robust communication in factory automation systems where multiple nodes must communicate over long distances in noisy environments.
Engine Management Systems
High-temperature operation up to 125 degrees Celsius makes it suitable for powertrain and engine compartment electronics.
Body Control Modules
Manages communication for automotive sub-systems like lighting, wipers, and window controls using the CAN protocol.

Getting Started

For rapid prototyping, place the MCP2561-E/P on a standard breadboard and connect it to a CAN-enabled microcontroller such as a PIC18 or an ESP32. Ensure a 120-ohm termination resistor is present at both ends of the CAN bus. Use the Microchip MCP2515 DM163015 CAN Bus Demo Board as a reference design for verifying protocol implementation.
